Miami, FL (USA) - Dozens of young Catholics of Miami Dade and Broward will unite their voices in the concert “Músicos al Rescate” (Musicians to the Rescue) to help the countries of Cuba and Haiti affected by Hurricanes Ike and Gustav. The concert will take place on Friday, October 10th at 7:30 P.M. in the Roca Theater of Belen Jesuit Preparatory located in 500 S.W. 127th Avenue in Miami.
The funds collected will be donated to “Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent of Paul”, a religious organization of the Archdioceses of Miami that recollect food and medicine to send to both islands.
“The images of pain that we have seen on television moves us to act”, affirmed Yeshica Yanes, spokesperson of Musicians to the Rescue, a group formed in 2001 after the earthquakes that shook El Salvador.
“We feel that we should do something for so many people that have lost everything”, she added. “Their tragedy is something that moves us all and helps us to see the abundance that we live in. We believe that The Daughters of Charity are doing a great labor and we know that they need economical assistance to be able to finance the shipping expenses of the containers”, remarked Yanes.
Among the singers who will participate in the concert are Cristy Arias, Sara Torres, Grupo Mystika, the acclaimed Cuban tenor Armando Terron, and as special guests Group Area 305 and the Haitian artist “Jacky and Strings”. The musical direction is in charge of maestro Juan Salazar. “We want to extend our thanks to Father Marcelino Garcia, S.J., Director of Belen Jesuit Preparatory for his generous contribution of donating the use of the Roca Theater for this concert”, commented Yanes.
The members of “Musicians to the Rescue” made a call to the organizations of South Florida that would like to help in this initiative with their sponsorship.
The concerts of the group “Musicians to the Rescue” are prepared by Catholic singers and musicians of different music ministries and parishes of the “Archdioceses of Miami” to serve as a means of raising funds to help economically and spiritually in moments of emergencies and natural disasters. Since its inception, Musicians to the Rescue have done concerts for victims of the earthquake in El Salvador (March 2001), during the attacks of September 11th (September 2001), for the home of the orphan children “Misioneros del Camino” in Guatemala (October 2001); for the victims of Hurricane Jeane in Haiti (November 2004), and for the victims of the Asian Tsunami (February 2005).
